Listen to your back
Stop doing what is causing you pain! Pain is your body warning you that you have damaged it, or are about to. Painkillers and non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs mask the symptoms but don’t address the problem. If you take them in order to do something which hurts without the drugs, you will only make your problem worse.

Keep calm
Even if you are in a lot of pain, it is usually a protective muscle spasm which the chiropractor can relieve.

Keep it cool!
To ease painful, swollen joints, place a cold gel pack or a pack of frozen veg. wrapped in a tea towel on to the sore area. Leave it for 15 minutes then have an hour’s break. Do not use if you are diabetic or have poor circulation unless you have your doctor’s permission.
Using a hot water bottle or lying in a hot bath can increase the inflammation and make it worse.

Keep moving
Try to stand up and move around as much as you can to avoid seizing up.

Make an appointment
Your chiropractor has the tools and skills to diagnose the problem quickly, and sort out any underlying condition which is causing the pain. He or she will then help you to prevent it happening again.
